Ok, I'm doing the comm owner thing here. Just putting up a few things that everyone needs to know.
Subject LinePLEASE remember that this is the line where your title, author and rating need to go. This information MUST be in the subject line. We're going to start correcting these because we're going to be doing some overhauling in a couple areas and this is something that needs to be uniform throughout the comm. So your subject line should look like this:
Rodney McKay for Prime Minister by Medie (PG-13)
There doesn't need to be parenthesis or italics, and you don't need to code the username. It should read Medie and not
[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. The volunteers will remove the coding before putting the rec in memories.
Volunteering to RecPlease remember that volunteering for a specific month isn't really possible or practical.
[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] assigns rec'cers on a
first come/first served basis. It is the only fair way to go about this.
In the 'Other' categories, such as Genre: Other, Character: Other, Friendship: Other, and Pairing: Other, only ONE rec'cer will be assigned each month.
If your name comes up on the list and you cannot rec for that month,
[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] will offer that month to the next person in line. The following month, she will go back to the person who was ahead in line and offer again. After that, the person will have to volunteer again at the end of the line. We really do want to keep this as fair as we can. Some categories have 'lines', but most do not. It's a pretty fair assumption that if you sign up and there's no one in line, you'll get the next month. No need to ask for it specifically.
Rec CategoryPLEASE make sure that the category you put in the
Rec Category: line is the same category that you were assigned. This helps out the volunteers IMMENSELY.
VolunteeringJust want to go through this because, apparently, there is a bit of confusion. There are two ways to volunteer to rec. The first is through this post:
Volunteer to be a Rec'cerThis post takes you to an entirely different journal called
[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] (no need to be a member to this one). From there you have four choices, depending on what you want to rec. Let's say you want to rec Daniel Jackson (I picked him because he's my favorite character *g*). You would go to the link that says
Characters. Click that link, and it will bring up links for all the characters that we have for rec'cing. Find Daniel on that list, click on the link, and post a comment, letting
[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] know you want to rec for him.
Rec categories are divided into Characters, Genres, Friendships, and Pairings (a 'pairing' is an implication of a romantic/sexual/emotional involvement that goes beyond platonic 'friendship).
The other means of volunteering to rec is the link list that I put up every month.
Here is the link to the link lists that have been posted in the past.We never advise to wait until this list is posted; however, it does give a link to every single category that
[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] offers to our rec'cers. Every group of categories (Character, Friendship, Genre, and Pairing) has an 'Other' category that allows people to volunteer for ANY category that is not a regular one.
Comments on Link List PostComments are disallowed on the link list post (and generally on the monthly assignment post) because we really want people to volunteer through the posts that we have set up through the links I have mentioned above. It's the only way to make sure that all categories are assigned on the
first come/first served basis.
As ALWAYS, if you have ANY questions, you can leave a comment to this admin post (or if you want to keep it private email me at angelsgracie @ livejournal.com). I have received many questions via email in the past and I always do my best to respond right away. My main goal is to keep this comm fun and fair for everyone. There is a very large membership and 'fair' isn't always what's easy, but we definitely try our best.
All that said... have a great month of rec'cing and reading!!! :)
