Why This Must Be Read: If you like kidfics, this is a great one (if not, then it's obviously not going to be your cup of tea).
The parentage might make you stutter a little, just for a moment, but it all slips into place nicely. (Go Jeannie.)
Sara, the kid in question, is a great OCC, fully fleshed out and written true to her age, a nice mix of childish insecurity and burgeoning sass. Smarter than "average" kid her age but not portrayed as a mini adult.
John's orbit around the McKays gets tighter and tighter, and the long-distance, email-filled relationship he has with Rodney rolls beautifully from slightly suspicious to warm strangers to friends. When they fall from friends to something else, it's so sweet and so them.
"And they lived happily ever after."
