Show: SG-1
Rec Category: Jack/Daniel
Characters: Jack and Daniel, Team, Narim, Original Alien
Pairings: Jack/Daniel, Sam/Narim
Categories: Slash (actually what this story is, we used to call preslash.), Humor, Mission
Warnings: NONE
Author's Journal: Merryish on LJ (I don't use LJ any more so I do not know if this is current
Author's Website: Unknown
Web Archive Link: Downtime
Why This Must Be Read:
This is a totally non-explicit Jack Loves Daniel fic, suitable for all audiences. I am still totally in love with this fic.
In rereading it to make this rec, I was struck by the importance of the narrative voice. Merry writes a very understated and humorous Jack, and this is her Jack in a very mellow mood. Her take on Jack's voice is what makes this story work. If you love Jack as a character and believe that Jack/Daniel is in any way plausible, you will enjoy this story.
It's an offworld mission involving a hilarious alien, rain, the Tollans (yay), all told from a gorgeous Jack POV, and the spine of the story is Jack getting to hang with Daniel. That's it. But it's so gorgeously told -- like Merry is lovingly sifting through her treasure box of SG-1 goodness and telling the old, old story again, once again, just for us. This story will cheer you up if you are down.
