Many thanks to [personal profile] melagan, [personal profile] mific, and [personal profile] popkin16 for all their December recs! We had 13 recs to round out the year, including my own.

Our stats for 2018:

We had a total of 154 recs this year, ranging from highs of 18 recs a month to as few as eight. This is much better than 2017, when we had only 134, but not as good as 2016, when we had 192 recs. Here's hoping the upward trend continues!

Stargate has been a closed fandom for a long time now (that length varies depending on whether you're a fan of SG-1 or SGA or SGU, really), so it's really a source of pride to see that the comm is still ticking along, even if it's slower than it used to be (250 recs or more per year was the norm, once). Reccers, you all deserve a salute. As do my fellow admins, [personal profile] annieb and [personal profile] thenightsfall, who keep the comm neat and tidy and make sure all the tags and memories are as they should be.

Many of our reccers are regulars, and they are worth their weight in weapons' grade naquadah. :) Our occasional reccers and once-only reccers are also deeply appreciated. We couldn't do this without you!

I usually list reccers in alphabetical order, but this list is simply chronological. Here's our honor roll of reccers in the year 2018:

The comm needs every one of you to keep that Stargate spinning!

We are offering a new perk for reccers this year: the opportunity to self-rec, if desired.

While reccers and authors aren't always one and the same (I think we can take it as given that if someone is reading this comm, they fall into the reader category!), there is a high percentage of reccers who also write. The question about reccing one's own stories has come up once or twice, and the admins have discussed it. In some fandom circles, self-recs are perfectly routine; other fandoms might feel otherwise. There doesn't seem to be a consensus in Stargate fandom, so after consideration, we have decided to experiment with the ability to self-rec as a perk for those who help keep the comm running.

The rules for self-recs are very simple:

1. Reccers who sign up for a month's worth of recs may also rec their own stories, AFTER they have recced their minimum two in their category of the month.

2. Self-recs MUST be clearly labeled as such. They will not be tagged as self-recs - authors/reccers should use the regular tagging system, as explained thoroughly in the FAQ entry - but they will have their own section in the memories. Reccers should label the stories as being in the Self-rec category rather than whatever category they have for the month.

3. Self-recs are limited to the number of other recs the reccer makes during that given month. Recced two stories? You can self-rec two of your own fics. Rec another story, add another self-rec if you so desire.

As I wrote above, this is going to be a trial run. We'll see how the self-rec category goes over the next several months.

There's still time to sign up for reccing in January! Go to this entry to claim a category. If you haven't recced for a while, there's always the FAQ entry, which includes detailed HTML coding for those who don't quite remember how it all works. :)

If you wish to give your opinion on the new self-rec category, make another suggestion, or ask for clarification, please feel free to do so in the comments.

Here's to another year of Stargate squee!
